Toghill And Woodbine Heroics As 1st Team Beat Nailsea
Article Date: 30th June 2008
Chipping Sodbury were five-run winners against Nailsea thanks to the heroics of last pair John Toghill (53 not out) and Richard Wood (26 not out). Toghill then took three wickets but, despite Henry Davies and Matt Bryant cracking 54 and 40 respectively, Nailsea finished on 167-8.
Having been put in on a soft drying pitch Sodbury did brilliantly to pull off a win with some impressive sensible batting by last wicket duo Toghill and Wood to deprive Nailsea of any extra batting overs and to substantially increase the CSCC score - 172 for 9 from 45 overs. In the last couple of overs Toghill unleashed some beautiful straight sixes.
Earlier Sodbury's batsman had struggled with Craig Scully (12) and Under 17 debutant Harry Webb (17) the only players in the top 9 to make double figures.
A consistant bowling display by Sodbury's just held up the Nailsea charge with a great all round effort from Toghill who claimed 3 wickets.
