Golf Day Round Up

The first official Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club Golf Day (certainly for as long as I can remember!) took place last Friday on what turned out to be a dry day at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club.

After the initial bacon butties, it was onto the Sodbury course for the 5 fourballs and Sopes. For those golfers who didn't attend, there were two competitions going on - a Single Stableford and a Bowmaker with the 2 best scores from each fourball taken from each hole.

Varied Golf

Well, I don't think many will disagree with me when I say that some people certainly experienced some 'varied' golf. With CSCC golfers sending their balls to all parts of the golf course, a lot of the time in completely the wrong direction, but hey, what d'ya expect!

Apart from the odd trolley getting hit by an exocet of a shot (team mate attached to trolley); balls being sliced across the front of on looking team mates, players picking up a fair few golf balls out of water or saying Adieus to it as it sailed over the hedge and into the path of Anthea the Friesian cow, it was a good day for everybody!

Winners!

The winner of the Single Stableford was ex-Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club allrounder Barrie Williams. The winners of the team award were Ian Hobbs, Reg Bush, Reg (Paul McCartney lookalike) from The Squire and Martin Rendell.

Back to the Cricket Club!!

Later that evening it was time for the awards back at base, home sweet home, Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club. After an all round good speech from Rob Fowler, he announced the award winners. Longest drive went to Jerry Swatton and nearest the pin went to 1st XI skipper Jon Toghill. After the serious winners collected their prizes, there were some not so serious awards. To the golfers that received them though, the day that preceded was anything but a joke....oh the trials and tribulations of it all...

Wooden Spoon

Rich Kingscott recieved the wooden spoon for obvious reasons, Martin Rendell got the shortest drive award and I won two awards. The first was relating to my ability to find the water and the other related to my ability to find out of bounds. ooo eerrr

And then.....the usual story........drink started to flow. There was some great food put on by Bob and Sue Soper, and Jules and Sarah tempted people to part with their money for the raffle. So thanks to them.

Finally, thanks to Malcolm Soper who organised a great day and a great way to kick off the build up to the 2004 cricket season. Maybe next time, Sopes will play, and then I'll be third from last......only kidding Sopes...honest!
