Bristol & District Senior Division Title Won By Bedminster
Article Date: 21st August 2006
Bedminster are celebrating after clinching the Bristol & District Senior Division title with a game to spare. The south Bristol club triumphed after they won their 12th game out of 13 this season when they saw off Hanham by 72 runs.
Bedminster's top performer was all-rounder James Carter.
The vice-captain cracked 92 not out in his side's total of 217-4. Wicketkeeper batsman Wasim Youfaffi weighed in with 54.
In reply, Hanham never got going and were restricted to 145-9 with Carter claiming 4-61. Carter's figures mean he now has 56 wickets for the season.
Bedminster's nearest rivals all season have been Chipping Sodbury but they slipped up in surprising fashion at strugglers Coalpit Heath.
The hosts made 184-8 from their overs with John Toghill taking three wickets for Sodbury.
But the visitors fell short on 183-9 with nine needed off the last over despite the best efforts of Steve Clapp, who finished 51 not out.
Clapp said: "It's been nip and tuck between us all season. The crucial game was against Bedminster, which they won."
It remains unclear as to exactly how many clubs will be promoted this year from Bristol & District Senior Division. The decision may not be made until as late as 2 weeks after the final league game.
Chipping Sodbury will be hoping that the decision goes in their favour but it doesn't look promising after official notification was recieved last week which stated that only one team may go up.
Regardless, Chipping Sodbury will be looking to take maximum points away from their encounter with Old Down at Chipping Sodbury on Saturday.
