Chipping Sodbury Women v Gloucester City Winget
In their first ever league season Chipping Sodbury Women's XI have shown much aptitude for the bowling and fielding skills; application in the batting department has not been the greatest strength. In the home fixture versus Gloucester City Winget all three skills were much in evidence.
A Good Start
Winning the toss and batting the home side amassed 190 - 6, all the batsmen who got themselves in showed much application and as a result several partnerships formed the backbone of the innings.
Jo Granger 18 and Leanne Leech 21 figure in an opening stand of 59, after their dismissal within two consecutive balls Sarah Price and Gill Rogers combined in a 42 run stand to steady the innings, Rogers went for a hard hit 27 before being harshly judged LBW.
Later order batsman Paula Young and Emma Rawlinson took the innings to a closed with a 72 run stand, with some good running and hard hitting, fast bowler Rawlinson contributed 26 not out, while the hard working captain Paula Young scored 38 not out, just rewards for all her efforts with the Ladies Section at Chipping Sodbury CC.
Sodbury closed at 190 -6, once again the opening attack of Kat Spray and Emma Rawlinson proved difficult to handle as Spray took 2-15 and Rawlinson 3-7, Gill Rogers chipped in with 2 wickets for only 7 runs and Sarah Price claimed one wicket, all bowlers being assisted again by excellent catching and fielding, Gloucester City Winget capitulated to 44 all out.
With two wins in a row Sodbury go in to their fixture with Cam Ladies on Sunday with confidence high but face a stiffer test against a well organised team.
