Dinner Dance a Success

Last Friday night saw Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club’s Annual Dinner Dance held at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club. It was another sell out with well over one hundred players, partners, parents and supporters attending.

Players' Player 2004

3rd XI captain Richard Deane was deservedly named the Players’ Player of the Year after leading the 3rd XI to champions of their league. This trophy was hot on the back of ‘Deano’ picking up the Bristol & District ‘A’ XI 2004 Division One Winner’s Trophy at the League Dinner the previous week.

Clubman of the Year

Clubman of the Year went to long serving (should read suffering!) grounds man - Jeff Long. Jeff’s work this year not only included work at Sodbury’s home ground at the Ridings but also work at Hillsley’s ground where the 3rd and 4th teams have played.

Jeff was recently invited to the Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards at Lords and just missed out on an award in the All Rounder category. Hopefully this award goes some way to easing the pain.

Young Player of the Year

Young Player of the Year was won for a second year in a row by Jamie Wakefield who this year made his mark on first team cricket and will be looking to improve on this next season.

The Chairman’s Award was shared by Under 13 players Tom Febry and Lewis Dyer. These two promising youngsters were an integral part of the inaugural 4th XI led ably by the Chairman, Andy Shield. They showed maturity beyond their years to help the side finish third in the team’s very first season.

Catalogue Man

The much coveted Catelogue Man of the Year had a new winner this year with aspiring model Richard Kingscott picking up the award. The immaculately dressed Richard was also the lucky winner of £120 in the Millennium Club Draw. There were numerous winners on the raffle with the main prize kindly donated by the Stroud & Swindon Building Society.

Thanks

A vote of thanks should go to CSCC committee members Malcolm Soper, Clive Reynolds and Andy Shield for organising the event.
