CSCC Needs More Volunteers Or Our Development Will Be Put In Jeopardy
Article Date: 22nd August 2011
Over the last decade our Club has grown dramatically to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, in Bristol/Gloucestershire. We are blessed with many volunteers who give their time freely, but without more volunteers our ability to develop the club will be put in jeopardy.
We still need a lot of help and you can make a difference whatever your age.
We're looking for volunteers who are:
- Youth Players
- Parents/Families of Players
- Senior Players
- Former Players
- Or Supporters
Why Volunteer at your Cricket Club?
Volunteering is very rewarding and has great benefits for both the club and individual. If you are thinking about seeking a new job, entering university, starting a new school, working in sport or generally improving yourself, cricket clubs can provide the perfect opportunity to help you reach your goals and objectives.
Among 200 of the UK leading businesses:
- 73 per cent of employers would employ a candidate with volunteer experience over one without
- 94 per cent of employers believe that volunteering can add to skills
- 58 per cent say that voluntary work experience can actually be more valuable than experience gained in paid employment
Volunteering can benefit you so much!
- A brilliant CV booster
- Satisfaction from doing something to make a difference within your local community
- An increased sense of worth and accomplishment from making a difference
- Learn new skills or using existing skills
- Skill acquisition – communication skills, leadership skills through hands on experience
- Development of your interests to become a profession
- Experiencing new challenges
- It can help you keep fit, de-stress
How Volunteering Built a Career for Mark Reynolds
"Like some others, I've volunteered at Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club for most of the time I've been playing. Although I play, you don't have to play in order to volunteer."
"When I was a boy I helped with odd jobs around the pavilion and ground, in my teens I started to coach some of the younger youth teams, then I went on to become a qualified coach and managed a few of the teams, and managed the youth section itself."
"Doing all of this gave me great satisfaction because I was helping the young players to enjoy the sport and become better, at the same time I felt I was helping to build a better future for the cricket club. But I didn't just volunteer on the cricket side of things."
"Back in 2002 I created the Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club website, this is the same website we see today, almost 10 years later! I didn't realise it at the time, but it would help me get my first job in the Internet industry which I'm still working in today."
"Once the CSCC website went live, it caught the eye of a local businessman who happened to be looking for someone to work on their website. I went for an interview, got the job and now 10 years later I run my own web design & internet marketing company. There are so many benefits to volunteering that whether you're young or old you should give it a go!"
At CSCC we often see volunteers helping with:
- maintaining the ground
- selecting the teams
- managing youth teams
- coaching youth teams
- working behind the bar
- maintaining the bar
- scoring and umpiring
- etc..
Not so visible are others who work behind the scenes:
- liaising with the leagues and the County
- keeping abreast of youth registration
- keeping on top of the financial matters
- working on our Development Plan
- coaching in local schools
- maintaining the website
- communicating with members
- recording match details on the web
- etc..
YOU can contribute to help with the running of our club by assisting/taking on any of the above or maybe:
- liaising with local schools
- coordinating our volunteers
- arranging fund raising schemes
- organising social events for youth/senior sections
- overseeing Clubmark
- coordinating the NatWest CricketForce weekend
- etc.
