CSCC's Under 15s Beat Old Bristolians/Westbury In Cup Final!

Well done on a Brilliant Performance!
It's been a busy time since our Under 15's victory in the cup almost two weeks ago, and now we want to officially congratulate all the players who were involved in the team's cup campaign this season, what an amazing effort!! And to do it in the club's 150th year too and on the first day of our cricket week!!
Winning the Cup is No Mean Feat
Winning the cup or winning the league is no mean feat and it requires a bunch of talented cricketers to play to their best over many matches. It's not since 1996 that the club has won a youth competition, when the Under 17s won the cup against Thornbury, with players such as Jay Rendell, Steve Clapp, Mark Reynolds, Rob Long and Mike Garton.
That's a long time(!!), the players in this year's team were just 1 back then!!! But during the intervening period a lot of work has been put in by many people to help create an environment which could nuture further success at CSCC. And obviously a lot of hard work by the players themselves.
The Future Looks Bright
Hopefully this great win by this great bunch of lads in the Under 15s is the first of many for our youth setup in this period following our 150th year, but that will require a lot more hard work from players and coaches.
Read on to find out what happened on this exciting finals day in Mary Makepeace's match report! And what a day it was, a day which will always stick in the memories of those who were there to play in it.
Chipping Sodbury Under 15s v Old Bristolians/Westbury Under 15s at Frenchay Sunday 18th July 2010
Final Match Report by Mary Makepeace
Chipping Sodbury Under 15 "Gold" team today won "The Urban Cup" in an exciting final at Frenchay.
Chipping Sodbury captain Mason Poole won the toss and decided to bat. Will Christofi confidently opened the batting showing no sign of cup final nerves. The 1st 6 overs we steadily hit 6 -7 runs per over despite losing 2 early wickets.
Mason Poole, leading from the front hit 41 whilst facing only 27 balls with 2 magnificent 6s. Jack Philpott also contributed strongly with a well timed 36. Ben Weaver, Jarrod Campling and George Ross showed huge determination running singles on every possible opportunity to ensure we reached the final score of 134 for 8.
Having shown Old Bristolians that Chipping Sodbury knew how to bat Chris Willoughby got off to a superb start by sending the stumps flying on the 1st delivery of their innings! His bowling figures were outstanding, finishing with 1 for 10 off 4 overs.
Bowlers also to be mentioned are Mason Poole for his 2 wickets and 2 fielding catches, Ben Weaver for 1 wicket and Reece Packer for 1 wicket and also accurately claiming 2 run outs.
Old Bristolians/Westbury were made to work for every run as Chipping Sodbury totally commanded the field. Bradley Hughes, George Ross and Alex Bush competently defended the boundaries with many 4s being prevented. Old Bristolians top batsman scored 32 runs of which only 2 were 4s!
Wicket keeper Sam Makepeace held his own allowing not a single bye to get pass him! Old Bristolians final score was 110 for 8.
This was a fantastic and enjoyable game to watch with the umpires at the end of the match congratulating both teams on their performances and behaviour on the field, saying the teams were a credit to their clubs.
The boys should be very proud of their well earned achievements today; it was a superb team effort, each player giving 100% and Captain Mason Poole receiving Man of the Match from the BYCL.
Special thanks should go especially to Neil Philpott and his number 2s Steve Poole, Russ Weaver, Andy German and Collin Campling for all their hard work, commitment and dedication over the many years to ensure these boys have developed into successful and mature cricketers.
