Match Report by Craig Hambly

Sodbury U15's were crowned County Champions on Sunday after beating Pak Bristolians in the NatWest National Cup Gloucestershire Finals held at Cheltenham CC.

After a fantastic win against Cheltenham in the semi's it wasn't very difficult to motivate the boys for this game. The only issue we had was the heat plus losing Chris vd Merwe to a sprained ankle.

Sodbury batted first after Adam Febry finally won the toss and Tom Makepeace got the innings of to a blistering start with a rapid 21 of 11 balls before losing his wicket in the 3rd over.

Adam Febry & Ryan Liddington then progressed the innings along before they eventually retired not out after having scored 50 and 52 respectively. Both batsmen scored at more than a run a ball.

The innings ended on 158 for 5 after 20 overs with Ali Scott providing a little camoe at the end with 13 of 9 balls. The pick of the Pak Bristolian bowlers was Tabish Khan with figures of 4-0-34-2 and Omer Sohail 3-0-18-1.

Pak Bristolians were soon in trouble when Dan Bown took 2 wickets in the 2nd over of the match leaving them on 6 for 2 after 2 overs.Dan Brown took his 3rd wicket in the 4th over of the match which affectively sealed the game for Sodbury.

With the score on 14 for 3 after 4 overs the Pak Bristolians struggled to recover from this position. The 4th wicket went down in the 10th over when the Ryan Liddington was introduced into the attack and some nimble glovework by Adam Febry behind the stumps.

This left Pak Bristolians on 41 for 4 after 10 overs and matters got worse in the 11th when a smart bit of fielding by Ryan Liddington resulted in a run out.

This left the opposition on 45 for after 11 overs and still requiring 114 runs with 54 balls left.

The 6th wicket fell in the 12th over when Tim Hodgson took a smart catch at mid-off off the bowling of Ryan Liddington. This left 112 required with only 48 balls left.

The remaining Pak Bristolian batsmen then decided to swing the willow and they eventually ended their innings on 103 for 8 after 20 overs with Tabish Khan top scoring with 53 retired not out which included 4 fours and 4 sixes.

The pick of the Sodbury bowlers was Ryan Liddington with figures of 4-0-6-2;Dan Brown 4-0-12-3 & Tom Makepeace 2-1-2-1.

The Sodbury Man of Match was Ryan Liddinghton for his 53 retired not out and 4-0-6-2 bowling figures.

Chipping Sodbury now go into the South and West Draw of the National Cup where they are due to play a team from Somerset in the Quarter Finals sometime next month.

Many thanks to all the parents and club members who came and gave their support to the boys.It was much appreciated.
