"Great Start At Chipping Sodbury CC" Says CSCC Chairman
Article Date: 17th May 2011
By Andy Shield, Chairman
I would just like to make a few positive comments in the early stages of what is already proving to be a very busy season at Chipping Sodbury CC.
High Quality Cricket
The cricket played at every level has been of a high quality.
Need More on Sundays
In terms of senior cricket, we have to date fielded the right numbers for the five Saturday teams with no trouble at all. Sundays needs a lot of hard work, please support those that are making the effort with raising a team and make yourself available.
Credit to the Sodbury Captains
Credit must be given to the various captains for managing the availability and non availability of our membership extremely well. This minimises last minute disruption.
New Members Made To Feel Welcome
We have had several new members join the club and in true Sodbury fashion they have been made to feel very welcome and have now become part of the furniture.
This influx has especially helped in the lower levels where we are now able to select a better ratio of senior to junior players.
Exceptional Youth Performances!
The youth teams are turning in some exceptional performances. And what has impressed is that at every level each team takes the field looking like a cricket team and a credit to our club.
Organisation & Leadership
All this comes from the excellent organisation and leadership in this important part element of our club.
Exceptional Talent
We are nurturing some exceptional talent which is good for the future. Equally impressive is the way that these young players conduct themselves on and off the field, something that should always be included in their development. Some of the habits of the senior players is obviously rubbing off.
Girls Cricket Growing
The girls section is hopefully receiving a boost as we have been working in partnership with the Gloucestershire Cricket Board and attracted at least 16 new players.
Thanks to all those who have the commitment and the much need patience to look after these budding Girl Cricketers.
Great Facilities
On Saturday May 14, I was at the Club quite early and in a moment of solitude had time to reflect on how fortunate we are to have the facilities we now enjoy, the final touch being the much used nets.
The whole club and ground looked absolutely magnificent. Much credit must go to those who make this possible - they must take much pride in their work at the Club.
Later, every one started arriving to under take their ground duty and there was no shortage of help on hand from all elements of the club. In terms of ground rota, teas, bar, supporting social events that people arrange, we need every one to do their bit when required.
This supports the hard work under taken by people in the normal functional elements of the club, cricket, ground, finance, bar, social etc.
Thanks to People Coming Forward to Help
A lot of effort is needed to keep our standards up, and it is pleasing to see that several people have come forward because they want to get involved and make a difference. We will never say no if any one else wants to get more involved.
Great Vibe at CSCC!!
Finally after a great and hard fought win over Lansdown, I heard one of our newcomers say "the best thing I've ever done is to join Sodbury, there is a great vibe about the place", and that says it all. Well done Sodbury.
Early Days....
It is early days, let's not be complacent but keep up our standards, and enjoy ourselves on and off the field, do your bit and come forward if you want to get more involved.
Personal thanks and well done from the Chairman
