Nail biting on and off the pitch
Just 4 months after it all began, the 2004 league season will end this week with the excitement created by the finale of the 2nd XI's season and the closest finish ever seen in a CSCC Fantasy Cricket Year.
Fantasy Cricket 2004
The culmination of Dave Reynolds' 2004 Fantasy Cricket competition has received a great boost with a finish which will go right to the wire. The current leader is Rob Scott with his team '10 ball overs are fine' (576 points). In second place is Joan Deane's 'Biddy's Boys' (574) and in 3rd place just 4 points behind the leader is Steve Clapp's 'Clappy's Crackerjacks' (572).
The Fantasy Cricket Chairman tells me that he can't see the winner being outside the current top 5, but folks anything can happen! This was illustrated by a moment this week which will live with me forever. As the only team with Peter Mardle in, his ton and 2 wickets gave me a hooge boost in the Fantasy Cricket. However I doubt the current top 5 team managers will get a result from a similar superb tactical selection. Rich Deane and Andy Shield are the outside bets for a No. 1 spot.
Make sure you are up at the club on Saturday night as Fantasy Cricket Chairman Dave Reynolds calculates the results live and relays it around the entire pavilion!! And don't forget the August Manager of the Month award which is being hotly contested by Jared Greenhalgh and Mark Reynolds, or could the winner of the £10 prize be lurking somewhere in the shadows?
The 2nd XI hopes for Glory
After spending the majority of the second half of the season trailing legue leaders Bristol Pakistanis, CSCC's 2nd XI is now anticipating the chance of a league championship after the Pakistanis lost on Saturday to Twyford House. It was only their second defeat of the season.
Life may be made easier if Bristol Pakistanis fail to play their final match against Stoke Bishop, who have failed to raise a side for many of their previous matches. A good win is needed against Almondsbury. Final calculations will be with us by the weekend!
