How Can YOU Take More Care Of YOUR Cricket Club?
Article Date: 8th May 2009
You may have read the recent article about members being called to take more care of their club. But what exactly is expected of those on the ground duty team, and how about those that aren't on duty?
Here's how we run the "Duty Teams" of which there are 6.
- Each team has a leader who will coordinate the members of the group to fulfil tasks during the weekdays and at the weekends eg manning the bar, cleaning the pavilions, marking the pitches/boundaries, erecting and aligning sightscreens, etc (all tasks are listed on the outside noticeboard).
- In each team there is a "Machine Man" who is responsible for all pitch preparation (cutting and rolling - ie using the machines) ONLY. This person must NOT be used for other tasks as they have to put in more hours than the other members of the team.
- Each team is on duty for about 4 weeks during the season.
- In addition we have Jim Cowles who cuts the outfields each week - we are very appreciative of Jim's efforts.
It's not only those on Ground Duty, it's up to all members...
The establishment of the teams a few years ago was meant to reduce the workload of the few and generally it has achieved this.
However, this does not mean that members "not on duty" can ignore the condition of the club. It is in all our interests to help out whenever we can to eg: take in the boundary rope, lower the sightscreens, pick up litter, take furniture inside, lock doors, etc..
If we all do our little bit it we will see a big improvement.
In addition to the tasks listed above we would like to point out that we must also keep the "Next Match" on the entrance sign up to date.
