Inaugural Youth Presentation Night Gets Off To A Flyer
Article Date: 27th July 2005
What a First!
The first ever Youth Presentation evening took place last Friday (22nd July) at Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club. Players and parents from the Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 13s, Under 15s and Under 17s watched on as 4 players were awarded with their team's Player of the Year Award.
Speech!!
With Rich 'Benno' Bennett on the BBQ and Rob Scott and Si Wilcox behind the bar, the evening started with a steady supply of food and drink. A speech by Club Chairman Andy Shield begun the evening as he commended the efforts of the children and coaches, whilst also mentioning other events taking place at CSCC. One of which is the widely anticipated second cricket pitch which is already being drained, leveled and re-surfaced. Another development being the setting up of the club's first ever Women's XI. Hopefully this team will continue going forward with strength under captain Paula Young and team coaches Andy Shield and Steve Bush.
A Great Effort by the CSCC Coaches
After this, youth secretary Mark Reynolds focused on the huge effort put in my the club's qualified coaches this year, who have worked with the players and also managed the teams during a much improved year on the pitch. "A huge amount of effort has been put in by every manager and coach up here," commented Mark "and both myself and the club are extremely grateful for what they have done for cricket at Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club and more importantly for the youngsters in this area."
The first people to be presented with awards were the Under 9s, where all the squad members (those who were in attendance!) were presented with official certificates to award them for their efforts in 2005 (not forgetting a mini chocolate bar or two!).
And the award goes to...
The first trophy of the night went to Under 11 Jack Townsend. Managers Neil Philpott and Steve Poole thought he deserved this for his excellent performances with the ball, both in hand and in the field, along with some truly memorable batting performances (the only boy Neil had ever witnessed, to have actually forced the reparking of cars for safety!!!). These attributes were equally supported by his calm nerve and quiet reassurance for those he played with, Jack was always a key element of the team. Well done Jack, 2005 Under 11 Player of the Year.
This time the ward goes to...
The second trophy of the night went to U13 Player of the Year Max Clark. Max scored the second highest total of runs in the season (76). He was the only player to reach double figures 5 times, was the most economical bowler and took the most wickets in the season (11) along with claiming 3 wickets on 3 different occasions (the only player to achieve 3 wickets at all). Congratulations Max.
Under 15 Player of the Year!
The third trophy of the night went to the Under 15 wicket keeper Rich Wardle for a season where he did well with the bat (and if he had had more opportunity could have done better!) he made some significant scores/contributions in the regular senior cricket that he was taking part in and also had a good season behind the stumps. In addition to this, the Under 15 Manager and coach Rich Bennett and Mark Reynolds felt his attitude, particularly off the field had been impressive setting a good standard. Congrats to Under 15 Player of the Year 2005 Rich Wardle!
Under 17 Player of the Year!
The Under 17 award went to a player who captained the side during the season leading them to third place in the league, a player who bowled with some very good pace, batted with very good technique, achieving some very good scores and even wicket keeping. In addition to this he continued to bowl for the Club's Senior 1st XI. So congratulations to Under 17 Player of the Year 2005, Jamie Wakefield.
So after the presentations had taken place, it was time for a chat and a bit of food and drink. Many thanks go to Rich Bennett who did a hugely impressive job with the BBQ on the night. Thanks for the effort Benno!
A Good Evening
So there it was, the first ever CSCC Youth Presentation Evening and I think it was a success! Hopefully there will be many more to celebrate the success, effort, ability and enjoyment of CSCC youngsters for many years to come.
