Kat Spray Wins Most Improved Womens Cricket Player Of The Year Award At GCB Awards

Article Date: 21st October 2006

Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club in Bristol is 150 Years Old this year!

The Gloucestershire Women's Cricket Association held their annual awards and presentation evening at Hatherley and Reddings Cricket Club, near Cheltenham on Friday 13th October 2006.

All the girls and women were presented awards for representing their county by England women's captain Charlotte Edwards and Gloucestershire batsman Chris Taylor.

Chipping Sodbury CC gives huge congratulations to Kat Spray who won the award for most improved senior women's player. It goes to show the huge development that her game has undergone over the last 2 seasons and is a credit to her dedication to women's cricket.

Since being present at one of the first meetings to discuss women's cricket at Chipping Sodbury, Kat has been an integral part of the women's cricket setup.

She's set a brilliant example to present and future women and girls, to get involved in a new sport, to have a great time while you're at it and show the ability to improve which is something that everybody should be capable of.

In such a short time her game has improved and she had already played for the Gloucestershire women's team.

So she now has a very nice medal from the GCB awards evening and she also got one as a member of the Gloucestershire women's cricket team.

If that wasn't enough Kat also won a 2 hour coaching session with Gloucestershire's very own Chris Taylor for winning a heads and tails game that everyone had to play.

A good evening was had by all who attended.

Special awards were also presented to girls in the U13, U15, U17 and senior women teams for best performance and best player during the season.

Apperley CC received the league winners cup for the second consecutive season and Bath 2nd XI were runners up in their first season.

Helen Clarke from Apperley CC won the best batsman award for achieving an average over 100 and Hannah Castle, aged 13, from CAM CC, won the best bowler award for taking 16 wickets in eight matches.

Bath 2nd XI received the 8-a-side festival winners cup and Cam Cricket Club got the runners-up cup. The best batsman award went to Gabby Hay of Gloucester City Wingets and best bowling award to Hannah Williams from Bath CC.

A raffle was also held during the evening, which included a signed England womens shirt and a Gloucestershire first team shirt signed by all the players.

Next season all Gloucestershire’s county teams will be run by the Gloucestershire Cricket Board and it is hoped that the progress made to date in the development of girls and women's cricket within the county is maintained.
