A Letter To Members Regarding The Raising Of Annual Senior Subs

Article Date: 26th November 2011

Sent on behalf of the Management Committee of the Club

The 2011 season at Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club was one of the best ever, if not the best.

We had an amazing year on the field of play with the Saturday 1sts, 2nds and 3rds all winning their leagues and the 4ths and 5ths coming close, altogether, a fantastic effort.

Also a lot was achieved off the field:

  • New/bigger/safer nets
  • Outside of both pavilions painted
  • Bowling machine purchased

and already since the end of the season:

  • The area around the second pavilion has been tidied up
  • The bowlers’ run ups to the nets has been improved
  • An electrical supply to the nets has been installed and
  • Work has been done to improve the main pitch outfield.

Review of Subscriptions at AGM

One of the items of business at every AGM is the “Review of Subscriptions”. The full senior subscription has remained at £40 since 2006 whereas the Youth subscription increased in 2011.

Proposal Made by Members at AGM

It was proposed by playing members, and passed, that in 2012 the Full Subscription will rise to £72. In 2012 the Youth Subscription will again be reviewed.

Necessary Increase

We realise that this is a large rise but all present believe that it is necessary if we want to continue to improve our facilities when our continually rising costs are considered:

  • In 2006 (excluding one-off expenditure) our costs were around £16 000, this has risen to £24 000 in the year just finished with the ground component rising from £4,500 to £7,000 over the same period. This is mainly because during this period we have been forced move from the position when all ground work was done by volunteers to our current situation when we pay for most weekly pitch preparation and all end of season pitch renovation work.
  • Ball costs have risen from £480 to £781
  • Umpires’ fees have risen from £204 - £856

In the past we have relied on the profit from the bar as a major source of income. The profit has contributed toward maintenance of the facilities and also toward the development of new facilities eg. the second pavilion. In 2006 this was £6686, this year it was £7746, although this was an increase, our other expenditure is rising at a faster rate.

Pay in Small Instalments of Just £6 per Month

Our membership year runs from January 1st. To ease the pressure on members in the current climate we are introducing a monthly standing order option to pay your subscription, you can find all details on our CSCC subs page, with the details of all subscription tariffs.

Treasurer on Hand to Discuss Financial Difficulties

Should you be suffering financial hardship, as always, speak to the treasurer, who will I’m sure be sympathetic to your plight.

Best Wishes from CSCC

In closing may I wish you and your family best wishes for the coming Christmas season and for 2012 when I hope we will all enjoy our cricket season.

However, please remember that your help would be appreciated over the early months of 2012 to get the club fully operational by the start of the season.

Yours sincerely,
Andy Shield

Andy Shield
Chair of Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club.
