Shirehampton Cricket Club's 1st XI v Chipping Sodbury 1st XI

Sodbury fell to an agonising 10 run defeat to put a huge dent in their title aspirations. Sodbury won the toss and elected to bowl first. The experienced opening pair of Jay Penfold and Jon Toghill made the most of the favourable conditions to pick up a wicket apiece and restrict the home side to 21 for 2 from 11 overs.

Shirehampton then staged a steady recovery, riding their luck in places, to progress their total. Jamie Rendell and Jamie Wakefield were then introduced into the attack and also picked up a wicket each before some late big hitting saw the home side take their total to a challenging 175 for 5 from their 45 overs.

Sodbury got off to another disastrous in their run chase. Openers Bryan Jater and Rich Howell were both dismissed cheaply as Sodbury struggled to get the ball off the square and were guilty of not rotating the strike as well as the home side.

Jamie Rendell (27) and Harry Webb (18) put on 27 but again struggled against some tight bowling. When they both fell in quick succession, Sodbury were reeling at 66 for 4 and just 18 overs remained. Jamie Wakefield was sportingly reprieved first ball after the umpire had initially given him out and with Andy Neal did their best to rescue the situation.

Neal did what he does best, combining lusty blows with terrier like running. When Wakefield was eventually caught out for a dogged 33 Sodbury still needed 48 from 6 overs. The Shire attack turned the screw on Sodbury and starved the rampant Neal of the strike.

When Jon Toghill was clean bowled for 6, Neal was left with too much to do on his own and his heroics were all in vain as he finished 49 not out and Sodbury 11 short of their target.

Chipping Sodbury 2nd XI v Shirehampton Cricket Club's 2nd XI

Sodbury missed out on the chance to go top of the table as they lost by 40 runs in a high scoring game. Sodbury won the toss and bowled first and got the best possible start with Adrian Forrester picking up a wicket with no score on the board.

However they were guilty of letting their foot off the gas and bowled too many extras as the Shire batsmen dominated the Sodbury attack. They racked up a massive 278 for 6 from 45 overs despite the best efforts of Rich Wood who finished with the impressive figures of 3 for 49.

Sodbury gave themselves a fighting chance in reply as Lee Walters (35) and Nick Wake (14) put on 54 for the first wicket. However they threw this away as 6 wickets fell for just 19 runs.

With the game all but over, Mark Reynolds set about restoring some pride. He and Rich Wood took the attack to the visitors and put on 94 before Wood went for a sparkling 42. Reynolds carried on his fine form this season to surpass 400 runs for the summer on his way to a career best 108 not out. His efforts were unfortunately not enough as Sodbury finished on 238 for 9 from their 45 overs – 30 short of their target.

Hambrook Cricket Club's 2nd XI v Chipping Sodbury 3rd XI

Sodbury suffered their second defeat of the season as they were soundly beaten by 7 wickets against local rivals Hambrook. Sodbury batted first and were shot out for just 114. Will Christofi (13) and Kris Hemming (27) were the only top order batsmen to provide any resistance and they were thankful to Mike Garton (17) for reaching three figures.

Hambrook made light work of chasing their target down, losing just 3 wickets in the process. Mike Pearson (2 for 20) and Bradley Arkwright (1 for 34) were the only bowlers to make any in roads as Sodbury had a bad day at the office.

Chipping Sodbury 4th XI v Shirehampton Cricket Club's 3rd XI

Sodbury produced a polished all round performance to record a 46 run victory over Shirehampton. Sodbury batted first and posted an impressive 191 for 8 from their 45 overs.

The promising Adam Febry held the innings together with a mature 59, before Nick Hambly (35) and Jarrod Campling (27 not out) boosted the Sodbury total.

In reply, Sodbury bowlers were always on top. Alex Tebbitt (3 for 16) and Campling (2 for 22) did the early damage before Darren Bell (2 for 18) and the wily Rich Deane (3 for 12) finished the job as Shire were all out for 145.

Bradley Stoke Cricket Club's 3rd XI v Chipping Sodbury 5th XI

Sodbury made it four wins in a row as they hammered Bradley Stoke by 7 wickets. Bradley Stoke batted first and were all out for 167.

Sodbury’s star bowler was skipper Jamie Pearson who returned a career best 6 for 44. Sodbury romped home with plenty of overs and wickets in hand as Craig Hambly (37) and the returning Ian Hobbs, who smashed a belligerent 76 not out, took Sodbury to their target with ease.
