Last Friday saw 20 guys from Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club attend the Adam's Exhibitions Bristol and District Cricket League Annual Awards Dinner at BAWA, Filton.
Everyone was looking forward to the moment when 1st XI captain Jamie Rendell would receive the Senior Division championship trophy from guest speaker Sean Udal. And when the moment arrived we were not let down, it was a special moment for the 1st XI and for the the rest of the club.
"We have finally broken the curse and clinched promotion!" exclaimed 1st XI skipper Jamie Rendell, "The boys played consistently well as a unit showing skill, determination and grit, and really enjoyed themselves in the process. Off it we are an ambitious well run club with 200+ members and we are all looking forward with great enthusiasm to next year's challenge."
On its own the 1st XI award was great, however there was more to come as 3 CSCC members, Jamie Wakefield, Rob Wakefield and Jeff Long, were recognised for their seasons.
Jamie received the B&D Young Player of the Year for his great efforts in 2007. "I'm overwelmed, surprised and amazed! This award means a lot to me and is already in full view on my shelf next to my Bowler of the Year award for Gloucestershire!"
Also in the awards was Jamie's Dad, Rob who came away with the B&D award for Highest Wicket taker. "I'm surprised and chuffed to bits and I hope it shows a lead to the youngsters. There's still life in the old dogs yet!"
Jeff Long was the final Sodbury award winner coming away with the B&D Over 50s award. The photo of his moment of glory really captured his shock at the award (you might actually get to see it one day on this website, one day!). Jeff continued to show his shock all the way home to his front door!
"I’ve never felt so bad the day after a dinner." says Jeff, "It’s the first time that I’ve won an individual cricketing award and I have to say I was amazed! I was chatting to Rob Wakefield at the time and wasn’t really paying attention and then Benno said ‘Are you listening to this!?’ and when Trevor Crouch said my name I couldn’t believe it. Amazed and delighted!!"
Many congratulations from all at CSCC to all the club's winners and thanks to all those that supported by attending. It was a memorable night!!
