1st XI v Bristol Asians (a)

Sodbury pulled off a remarkable 12 run victory despite being bowled out for just 81. Sodbury lost the toss and were asked to bat first. They soon found themselves in deep trouble at 16 for 3 as Bryan Jater (2); Rich Howell (7) and Jamie Wakefield (3) were all dismissed cheaply.

Harry Webb (18) and Craig Scully then shared a 31 run partnership but when they were dismissed in quick succession the writing was on the wall for Sodbury.

Only James Hicks stood firm to finish on 12 not out as the visitors were all out for just 81 in the 34th over.

The home side got off to a flying start with a flurry of boundaries before Jamie Wakefield made the initial breakthrough.

Fellow opener, Jay Penfold, then got in on the act as the home side slumped to 39 for 5. However a fifth wicket partnership of 24 seemed to have swung the game back into the Asian’s favour.

Jon Toghill made the vital breakthrough and the final 5 wickets fell for just 6 runs as Sodbury claimed a most unlikely victory.

Wakefield finished with the impressive figures of 3 for 6, Penfold 4 for 45 and Toghill 3 for 12 as the Sodbury bowlers proved their worth once more.

2nd XI v Bristol Asians (h)

Sodbury ran out 8 wicket winners in a fiery encounter at the Ridings against Bristol Asians. Sodbury won the toss and decided to bowl first.

It looked like a wise decision as Chris Willoughby picked up 4 wickets without conceding a run as the visitors struggled to 11 for 4.

The introduction of fellow left armers Steve Clapp (3 for 23) and Rick Wood (1 for 30) bought more wickets as the Asians were in deep trouble at 66 for 8.

However Sodbury let their foot off the gas and some intelligent batting saw a 47 run ninth wicket partnership and 32 put on for the last wicket as the visitors were all out in the last over for 145.

The Asians continued their ascendency with the ball as Jerry Swatton and Tom Febry were both dismissed without facing a ball and Sodbury were reeling at 12 for 2.

Mark Reynolds and Nick Wake then slowly set about rebuilding the innings. Reynolds was lucky not to be run out as he struggled to make his ground but fortunately the Asian’s wicket keeper had clearly dislodged the bails before the ball reached him.

This seemed to spark the duo into life as both batsmen launched a sustained attack on the visitor’s bowlers. After being on 35 in the 23rd over they finished the game just 13 overs later.

Wake finished on a fine 58 not out and Reynolds lead the way with another majestic half century as he ended up 66 not out in a knock including 13 fours.

3rd v Bristol YMCA 2nd XI (a)

Sodbury put in a fine all round performance as they smashed Bristol YMCA by 187 runs. Sodbury batted first and posted a massive 225 for 8 from their 45 overs.

Mark Graham was the mainstay of the innings with a magnificent 106 – his highest score of the season. He was found a useful partner in Will Christofi who contributed 20.

In reply, YMCA had no answer to the imperious Matt Calicott. He took his season’s wicket tally past 30 as he single handedly destroyed the home sides batting line up finishing with 7 for 17.

Jack Philpott also chipped in with 2 for 9 as YMCA were all out for just 38.

4th XI v Twyford House 4th XI (h)

Sodbury brushed aside Twyford with a comprehensive 118 run victory.

Batting first, Sodbury were given a great start by father and son Steve and Adam Febry who shared an opening stand of 63. Father Steve was first to go for 33 and youngest son Adam soon followed for 36.

Club chairman and stalwart Andrew Shield continued the good work with 30 before James Welch took control. His blistering 57 not out gave the Sodbury innings some much needed impetus as they posted 191 for 7 from their 45 overs.

Twyford got off to a steady start before being pegged back by Nick Hambly who took 2 for 23. However the introduction of Kris Hemming put the game beyond doubt.

His aggressive spell bought him 5 for 10 to bowl the visitors out for just 73 and leading Sodbury to a comfortable victory.

5th XI v Timsbury (a)

Sodbury’s fifth team returned to winning ways and made it a clean sweep for the club as they beat Timsbury by 119 runs.

Sodbury batted first and were indebted to an opening partnership of 55 between brothers Sam and Tom Makepeace.

Tom was first to go for 20 but Sam went on to produce an immaculate innings before being dismissed for 74. Jamie Pearson (23) and Darren Bell (23) ensured their good work was not undone as Sodbury made 171.

In reply, Sodbury’s perfectly balanced attack of the experienced Tony Garton and youthful Dan Morgan were too strong for Timsbury. Garton did the early damage with 5 for 21 and Morgan finished the job with 3 for 7 as the home side were all out for just 52.
