Chipping Sodbury have their own second pitch now for the first time in their 147-year history. The club, who have staged lower team matches eight or 10 miles away at Lansdown, Tormarton or Hillesley, opened the new facilities at their Ridings ground last Wednesday evening.
And they were quick to put the new wicket to use as the fourth team beat the thirds by two wickets. Matt Davidge and Jimmy Deane both retired on 30.
Event organiser Jay Penfold said: "Approximately 10 years ago, the cricket club's committee decided that its principle aim should be to bring the third and fourth teams back to the Ridings for their home fixtures, thus ending years of a nomadic existence for these teams.
"More recently, youth team development has placed a huge strain on our facilities, further highlighting the need for a second pitch.
"As a result of years of hard work, and with the support of our landowners, Chipping Sodbury Towns Trust, we are now in a position to bring all of Sodbury's cricket back to the Ridings."
