Slow Progress As Mud And Concrete Hold Back Our New Cricket Nets

Article Date: 20th November 2010

Clive Reynolds has reported back from the club today and it's all fun and games with the progress of the nets; including a series of events leading to 1x broken vehicle and 1x stuck vehicle!

Bad Weather & Lots of Concrete

The weather has been pretty poor and also no-one knew just how much concrete had been put down under our old nets in the early 1990s! Apparently it would have been strong enough to hold up a building, not just a few poles!! No one could have known how thick it was because the concrete gets much thicker the further you move in from the edges.

The Outfield Suffers

The diggers/vehicles from the company putting the nets up, have been driven many times from the nets to the car park and back. Let's just say we're thankful that we have 5 more months until the season starts!! Mud everywhere you look.

And then it goes wrong!!

One of the vehicles broke down today, so another was sent for to come and fix it. The vehicle that came to fix it then got stuck between the two outfields, spinning away in the mud! Then a large tractor came from near the golf club (thanks to those people) to rescue the stuck one....final result all fixed, but the outfield has taken a battering! Poor outfield!

The Week Ahead?

So back to the nets, there's still lots to do and things are behind schedule which is unfortunate for everyone involved. Hopefully progress will pick up this week. Good luck to the people from S&C Slatter who by all accounts are doing a brilliant job up at CSCC in trying circumstances.
