Last Thursday night Chipping Sodbury made the trip to Thornbury to play Thornbury 'C' in the NatWest Bristol Youth Cricket League Under 15 semi final.
The last Sodbury Under 15 semi-final had taken place a long time ago back in 1995 with Jamie Rendell, Mark Reynolds, Mike Garton, Rob Long, Matt Davidge and Jim Deane still playing at CSCC 11 years on! Hopefully the new breed could emulate their 1995 success.
A good turn out from Sodbury's supporters looked on as Sodbury began their innings, hoping to set a competitive target.
Sodbury got off to a brisk start but lost the promising Harry Webb early on. The run rate slowed as Thornbury applied the pressure through some good bowling.
Opening batsman Tom Febry batted steadily throughout and contributed a valuable 58, but he was out near the end. Chipping Sodbury finished their 20 overs at 112 for 5.
In reply Sodbury hoped for an early break through but unfortunately it never came. The crisp hitting of Harry Blackwell allowed Thornbury to ease to victory by 10 wickets as Harry ended on 75 not out.
Chipping Sodbury Under 15s can be very pleased with their efforts during the 2006 season. The semi-final defeat was their first in the league and many of the Sodbury players improved greatly during the year. Well done to all the players, coach Rich Bennett and also Rich Kingscott, and others who helped out along the way.
