Celebration For Sodbury As Club Take Clean Sweep
Article Date: 5th July 2004
What a day as club makes history!
Chipping Sodbury gave themselves a major shot in the arm in their quest to win the Senior Division this summer - while the club as a whole celebrated a welcome first! The high-flying first team enjoyed an eight-wicket victory over Bristol Pakistanis, just the tonic after a disappointing defeat to local rivals Coalpit Heath.
After dismissing their opponents for 138, Sodbury swept to 142-2. Dave Reynolds and Jerry Swatton, with an unbeaten 32 and 22 not out respectively, helped the South Gloucestershire outfit home.
"That was a very good win for us given Coalpit Heath did us no favours a fortnight back," fixture secretary Andy Shield acknowledged.
"It remains a big goal of ours to get up to the next level (Bristol and North Somerset League) and we know exactly what we need to do to get there and that is win this division."
Shield did not witness the victory, however, as he was helping the relatively new Sodbury fourth team (70 all out) pip Timsbury (46) by 24 runs.
He explained with a grin: "It might have been a low-scoring game but it was the first time ever all four of our teams enjoyed victories at the same time, so we're chuffed to bits with that.
"This is a flourishing club and what happened on Saturday underlined that."
