Sodbury Open Up For Women

Article Date: 21st May 2005

Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club in Bristol is 150 Years Old this year!

Chipping Sodbury took their first steps towards setting up a women's team by hosting an open day. Members of Gloucestershire Under-15 side were on hand, along with level one coaches from the South Gloucestershire club, to introduce newcomers to the fundamentals of the sport at their Ridings ground.

Organiser Andy Shield said: "Creating a ladies section has been on our agenda for a considerable while. It's a growing area of cricket and we're seeing the level of interest."

More than 12 females of various ages and abilities attended the first session. It is hoped, following more open days, that the club will stage an inaugural fixture later this summer.

Shield added: "We were encouraged by the positive response and we hope from this that women's cricket will become an integral part of the club."

The Women's XI continues training every Sunday morning from 10.30am at Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club. So come along!!

If anyone's interested then feel free to ring the Women's Team Captain Paula Young on 01454 852429 or just come along.
