Timsbury Cricket Club falter against Sodbury
Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club 1st XI extended their unbeaten run to ten games with a comfortable 6 wicket victory over bottom of the table Timsbury Cricket Club.
Sodbury won the toss and elected to field first. Sodbury bowled and fielded excellently but were unable to take any wickets until the 38th over with the score on just 83.
Timsbury wickets fall
Sodbury then tightened the screw further as Timsbury Cricket Club 1sts were unable to break their shackles and limped to 125 for 4 from their 45 overs.
Jamie Wakefield collected 2 for 51, Rich Wood bowled 7 overs for just 8 runs, young Mason Poole also bowled superbly going for just 13 from his 5 overs and Jon Toghill claimed 1 for 36.
Captain spins a fine performance
However it was skipper Jamie Rendell who stole the show with a fine display of spin bowling finishing with figures of 13 overs, 6 maidens, one wicket for just 10 runs.
In reply, Sodbury made a steady start but also struggled to score runs. Jamie Rendell and Craig Scully opened proceedings before Rendell fell for 10 with the score on 29. Nick Wake (2) joined Scully (13) before both fell in quick succession to leave Sodbury struggling on 45 for 3.
Neal attacks
However this bought Andy Neal to the crease and he succeeded where every other batsmen had failed as he blazed the ball to all parts of the ground before being caught out for 26 with the score on 90.
Sodbury Guided to Victory
This left Jamie Wakefield (28 not out) and James Hicks (18 not out) to calmly guide Sodbury home with 8 overs to spare and 6 wickets in hand. This win over Timsbury Cricket Club's 1st XI means Sodbury need just 2 wins from the final 3 games to be guaranteed promotion.
