WEPL Decide 1st XI Will Play In Glos&Wilts In 2012 - 2nd XI In Bristol & Somerset

Article Date: 14th September 2011

It has been announced by the WEPL board (West of England Premier League) that Chipping Sodbury's 1st XI will move up into the Gloucestershire/Wiltshire side of the WEPL structure, rather than the Bristol & Somerset side. This means that 2012 will be an exciting year full of plenty of new challenges for Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club as they move into the next tier of the WEPL after promotion.

2nd XI Not to Follow 1st XI

The picture however is slightly confusing at the moment as the club's 2nd XI will still be promoted into the Bristol & Somerset league. The 2nds would be travelling to Minehead, Chard (near Lyme Regis!), Clevedon and Uphill Castle! CSCC has not yet made a full response to this and are actively seeking clarification on the current position.

Meeting Held For 1st & 2nd XI Players

On Monday night 1st XI and 2nd XI players were invited by the CSCC management committee to come up to the club and discuss which route we would like to take so that we could make a request to WEPL; would we prefer to go up into the Bristol & Somerset division or across the pyramid structure and up into Gloucestershire & Wiltshire.

Final Decision with WEPL

The merits of both leagues were considered and the players concluded that we convey our preference as being Bristol & Somerset - we however realised that the final decision was with WEPL and we may end up in the Gloucestershire & Wiltshire league.

Glos & Wilts Has Advantages

The discussion was very open and although the preference was Bristol & Somerset, the alternative did have its own advantages. Looking at the geographical position of the club, it may not have been surprising that WEPL made the decision to put the 1st XI into the Glos & Wilts league.

2nd XI's Situation Brings Geography of Bristol & Somerset to Light

The realisation that the 2nd XI could be playing Minehead, Chard (near Lyme Regis!), Clevedon and Uphill Castle might have made our preference of Bristol & Somerset questionable.

Next Year's Leagues as it Currently Stands
