As part of our cricket club's push to raise the profile of women's cricket in the area, CSCC will bring you important developments within women's cricket.

ECB will introduce a Women's Academy Programme starting from October 1 2005 and each year a group of potential England players will be picked to follow an individually designed 12-month training regime.

The programmes will be led by the Women's Academy coach Barbara Daniels and will be followed in conjunction with the player's county Academy or UCCE coaches.

Shift of Focus

The Academy programme will focus more on individual development than previous programmes and has been devised in order to produce more players of a high standard who are capable of playing for England.

Opportunities will be available for the Academy players in the various England representative teams such as the A team, England Under 21, Under 19 and the ECB Development XI which competes in the European Championship.

Daniels said: "This is a real opportunity to help players develop effectively and appropriately. I am delighted that county Academies and University Centres of Cricketing Excellence are enabling girls to join their programmes and allowing us to assist these players in a far more competitive fashion.

"It is particularly important now we are spotting younger talented players to make sure they receive appropriate support earlier."

England Women's head coach, Richard Bates, added: "Providing a more player-centred programme for our young players will undoubtedly increase our chances of producing high-class international cricketers of the future.

"Many promising young female players are currently coming through county age-group cricket and some are starting to be taken on by county Academies and UCCE's.

"Working together to produce individualised programmes for these players will ensure we have more quality players pushing for England selection in years to come.

"As we start to plan for the next World Cup it will be some of the players who come through the Academy programme that will no doubt feature and bring us success in 2009 and beyond."
